about

A ladainha is a type of song normally sung by the Capoeira master to open the roda (circle).
In the roda the students and advanced Capoeiristas play a sparring-like situation.
This ladainha is a very old one, sung and played by my friend and teacher "Gato" from Salvador Bahia. He started learning Capoeira at the age of five from his father Mestre Gato, the oldest Capoeira master in Brazil (at the time of the recording - meanwhile he passed away). The song talks about the miserable situation of black people in Brazil during the period of slavery and even in later times.
